My first show in Santa Barbara

This Spring I was accepted in the SBAA. This week I was accepted into a juried show that’s at the downtown library. Its a small step into art in this town. Next week I’ve been here in Santa Barbara a full year. Its been a year of being a little unmoored artistically and in so […]

This one was tough

This background has had many iterations. Painted. Painted again. Sanded. Repainted. Resanded. Reoutlined. The frustration was sustained but once I figured out what was bothering me the resolution tumbled out in a satisfying rush.

Sabbatical Log: Day 31 and 30

I messed up my days a bit. I don’t even know what happened to day 29. It doesn’t matter, it’s just my online journal. I’m able to let that sort of thing go pretty darn easily. Maybe I’d be more successful if I was tighter wound in this way, but I am a-ok letting this […]

Sabbatical Log: Day 25.5

Friday I tried this yoga video that frustrated me enough that I quit 30min in. It was not very aerobic, but a confusing strength plank/balancing combo. I may try it again in a month. Maybe it was not the day for that video. I did some work around the house because I had an appointment for […]

Sabbatical log: Day 23

Yoga. I’m still challenged at standing balance poses and binding poses, but seriously the standing poses make me feel like i have round feet. Sabbatical Day 21: Return to the Studio

So Santa Barbara is a real place. I have been there to confirm it is a real place where people live. This move is now real to me. Also adding to the realness department we signed a lease to a small apartment with an ocean view. This landlocked midwesterner’s life is about to change. But one […]

Sabbatical log: Day 20

Friday was really beautiful so I played hooky on yoga and painting. I did do all my laundry in prep for my trip to Santa Barbara, there was a portion of responsibility in there. Afterwards I rode my bike in short sleeves! My shining pink polka-dotted arms made a little vitamin D and soaked up […]

Sabbatical Log: Day 19

I don’t feel so hot today. I started feeling poorly when I got to my studio, but I felt off all day starting at 3am. I muddled through some things. Worked on a painting composition but mostly varnished and painted sides. I was kinda interested if my space ace brain would do something brilliant, but […]

Sabbatical Log: Day 18

I did yoga after a mental fight. I drank coffee and read the internet and then gosh cleaned up the house. I really do have a tough time transitioning out of the house and there is no limit to the productive things I will think of to delay myself even though I want to leave […]
